Kelly Brannan was
born in Southern Pines, North Carolina and grew up working with carriage
horses and farms in the area. She attended North Carolina State University,
where she earned a double B.S. in Animal Science and Poultry Science
in 2000. Kelly continued her education at NCSU and went on to obtain
her M.S. in Poultry Science in 2007.
As the Coordinator
of Equine Extension Activities, Kelly provides statewide support for
equine and poultry extension educational seminars and events. She works
with extension specialists and agents to keep the equine community informed
on upcoming conferences, new research, and any other information that
will benefit the Maryland horse industry. Kelly also assists with applied
research projects at a state and regional level.

Dr. Burk
teaches the Equine Science and Horse Management courses as well as many
horse related lectures and labs in the Department of Animal and Avian
Sciences. She oversees the donations and uses of horses housed at the
ANSC Campus Farm. Dr. Burk also serves as co-advisor of the
University of Maryland Equestrian Club and advises several graduate students pursing degrees in Equine Nutrition. Major goals of her equine teaching
program are to prepare students for careers in the equine industry as
well as to prepare students interested in pursuing entry into graduate
equine research programs and veterinary school.
As a Horse Extension
Specialist, Dr. Burk provides statewide educational leadership
to youth in the area of equine science and management. Major focuses
of her equine extension program include providing educational leadership
to the Maryland 4-H Horse Program in areas including educational resources,
rules and regulations, state horse contests, fundraising, and the 4-H
horse advisory committee. She's also known to pop up around the Mid-Atlantic
Region to give talks on equine nutrition and health to members of the
horse industry.
Dr. Burk's
research interests are mainly concentrated in folate status and supplementation
in the horse and pasture intake and digestibility of horses.

Erin Petersen was
born and raised in Loveland, Colorado. She earned a BA degree in Political
Science from The University of Colorado in 1994. She also holds a BS
degree in Equine Science from Colorado State University (2000). Petersen
remained at Colorado State University, earning an MS degree in Animal
Science in 2001. Her research focus was aimed at investigating nutrition
of the growing horse with faculty advisor, Dr. Paul Siciliano.
Petersen's teaching
responsibilities in the Institute of Applied Agriculture and the Department of Animal and Avian Sciences include , Equine Nutrition (INAG 117/ANSC 234), Equine Health Management (INAG 120), Equine Behavior
(ANSC 233), and Equine Reproduction Management (INAG 233/ANS C237). She also
assists in the teaching of equine related lectures and labs in other courses offered by the Department of Animal and Avian Sciences. Ms. Petersen is also
co-advisor for the University of Maryland Equestrian Club.
Petersen's extension
program is designed around providing up-to-date equine information to
Maryland's horse owners including seminars, presentations and publications.
Petersen's research
interests include nutrition and bone development in young horses.

Lindsay grew up
around the College Park area, and graduated the UMCP in 2003 with a
BS degree in animal sciences/management. She owns her own horse, Toby,
along with dogs, cats, and 2 guinea pigs, and is very excited about
working in her new position as the Farm Manager at the UMCP Campus Farm.
She has experience with horses, cattle, pigs, and sheep, and loves it
when people come to visit the farm!!! Drop in any time during the day
to visit the animals and Lindsay, and you can even take some manure
home with you for your garden; we have PLENTY!!

Kristen Wilson was born in Annapolis , Maryland . However she grew up in the state of Florida . She earned a B.S. degree in Animal Science – Equine Industry from the University of Florida in 2003. She remained at University of Florida to earn a M.S. degree in Extension Education with a minor in Youth Development in 2005. Her research focused primarily on identifying the needs of adult horse owners in Florida in order to enhance the Florida Horse Extension programming efforts.
As the Regional Horse Extension Specialist for University of Maryland Cooperative Extension , Kristen provides statewide leadership for the Maryland 4-H Horse Program. Kristen coordinates statewide equine contests and educational programs for 4-Hers, volunteers and county educators. In addition, she teaches within the Institute of Applied Agriculture 's Equine Business Management Program. She also serves as a co-advisor to the UMCP Collegiate 4-H Club.
