Green Mountain Horse Association Summer Internship Opportunity

The Green Mountain Horse Association (GMHA), located in South Woodstock, VT, is a nonprofit corporation that organizes competitive, recreational and educational equine activities in five disciplines (combined training, dressage, driving, hunter/jumper, and trail). GMHA interns have a unique opportunity to learn through experience about what it takes to run excellent events during GMHA's summer season. Interns participate in a challenging rotating schedule of activities that may be tailored to reflect their particular interest and academic needs. Because GMHA activities are oriented around weekends, interns will work five-day weeks that include most weekends throughout summer, with compensatory weekdays off. Interns should expect to work approximately 45 hours per week.

Interns may have responsibilities in some or all of the following areas:

  • Event planning and preparation
  • Event set up and break down
  • Day-of-event operations
  • Grounds maintenance
  • Volunteer management
  • Event communications, written materials and PR

GMHA will work with each intern to ensure that his or her experience meets relevant educational needs, including duration/hours worked. Interns will receive on-grounds housing and a $500/month stipend. Special educational or recreational activities for interns will be arranged according to interest. GMHA seeks energetic, motivated, teamwork-oriented young men and women (ages 18+) who are interested in gaining exposure to the operations of this nationally recognized equestrian institution. Applicants should have a can-do attitude and be prepared to immerse themselves in GMHA's fast-paced summer schedule. Applicants need not have previous experience of grounds management or running events but should be able to demonstrate how the GMHA internship experience will fit into their educational and/or professional goals.

Interested students should e-mail Dr. Amy Burk.
