Dr. Martin Adams has been the equine nutritionist and horse feed sales manager for Southern States since 1999 based in Richmond, Virginia. He writes equine nutrition articles for EquuSSource, a magazine for horse owners published quarterly by Southern States. Dr. Adams was team coordinator of equine nutrition research for Cooperative Research Farms for 5 years, an organization of which Southern States is a member. Presently, he serves on the CRF Equine Research team as the Southern States representative. Before coming to Southern States he was equine nutritionist for Seminole Feed in Ocala, Florida. Dr. Adams has also served on the animal science faculty at Louisiana Tech University. He holds two undergraduate degrees from Southwest Missouri State University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Animal Science (Nutrition) from the University of Missouri-Columbia and is certified with the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists (ARPAS).

Ben Beale currently serves as the Extension Educator for Agricultural Sciences in St. Mary’s County. In this position, he has the responsibility to develop and implement programs in crop and livestock production, farm management and marketing. Beale holds a BS degree in Agricultural Sciences and MS degree in Management and Marketing.

Dwight Bennett, a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary
Medicine, has been a veterinarian for 48 years. Following time in large animal practice and in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps, Dr. Bennett attended the University of Wisconsin on a United States Public Health Service Post Doctoral Fellowship and received a PhD in Veterinary Parasitology.
After ten years on the faculty of Purdue University Dr. Bennett, in 1975, became a Professor of Equine Medicine at the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine. His primary interests have been equine internal medicine, equine reproduction, equine color genetics, equine dentistry and bits and bitting systems. He has received numerous awards for outstanding teaching both at Purdue and Colorado State and in 1997 received the Colorado State University Alumni Association’s award for excellence in teaching. Dr. Bennett retired from Colorado State in August, 2000.
Although retired, Dr. Bennett continues to be active in consulting, speaking and writing. Since retiring he has published more than 100 articles in Western Horseman, Performance Horse, Veterinary Forum and other journals.
Dr. Bennett, who has a personal collection of more than 350 bits, has lectured internationally on bits and bitting to veterinarians and horsemen. He has co-authored a book: Bits and Bridles: Power Tools for Thinking Riders, Equi-Media, 2000 and has contributed a chapter on “Bits, Bridles and Accessories” to the second edition of Equine Dentistry , Elsevier/Saunders, 2005, edited by Jack Easley and Gordon Baker.

Dr. Wynne Collins received her veterinary degree in 1998 from the Veterinary Faculty of Ireland in 1998. After that, she spent several years in mixed animal and equine practice, where she specialized in equine reproduction. During her time in practice, she got the opportunity to work in reproduction practice both in Ireland and Australia. In 2002, she started a residency in Equine Theriogenology at University of California, Davis for two years and became board certified in 2005. Since completing the residency, she has been conducting reproductive research on Przewalski's horses at the National Zoological Park's Conservation and Research Center in Front Royal, VA. She is currently working on completing her PhD in reproductive physiology at the University of Maryland.

Dr. Clint Depew is a professor and extension specialist in the Department of Animal Sciences at Louisiana State University . He received his B.S. and M.S. in Animal Science at the University of Arkansas before completing his PhD in Animal Breeding and Genetics at Louisiana State University . Dr. Depew is very active within the Louisiana Cooperative Equine Extension program. His current projects include the advancement of the Master Horseman project, which he founded to improve the skills and knowledge of advance horsemen and to encourage them to become volunteer teachers within the equine community in order to improve horsemanship statewide. Dr. Depew has also worked with the Youth at Risk Task Force, the Louisiana 4-H Cooperative Extension Youth Development Program, the American Youth Horse Council and has written several publications on the subject of developing children and horses to the benefit of both.

Dr. Dukti is a clinical assistant professor in emergency medicine and critical care at Virginia Tech's Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center. She received a doctor of veterinary medicine from The Ohio State University in 2002, after which she conducted an internship at the Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, and a residency with a focus on surgery and emergency medicine at the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. Dr. Dukti joined the Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center's staff in July 2006. She achieved Diplomate status through the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2007.

Dr. Betsy Greene is an Associate Professor of Animal Science and Extension Equine Specialist in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Vermont. She was raised in Bedford, Massachusetts and received her A.A.S. and B.S. from Morehead State University, her M.S. from the University of Arizona, and her Ph.D. from Kansas State University. She earned American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists certification in 1997.
Dr. Greene’s responsibilities in the Equine Science Program include teaching a variety of courses including Introduction to Equine Science, Animal Science Career Seminar, Horse Barn Cooperative, Equine Enterprise Management, and Equine Industry Issues. She also serves as a coach of the UVM Drill Team.
Her statewide extension programs have focused on preventative care and maintenance for horse health, safety, equine business, and pasture management. She organizes the educational aspect of “Everything Equine” a 2-day equine educational event and consumer trade show that was awarded the “Non-Fair Agricultural Event” (International Association of Fairs and Expositions) and “Top Ten VT Event” (VT Chamber of Commerce).
Dr. Greene served national organizations, including the United States Equestrian Federation (Safety Committee) the Equestrian Medical Safety Association, and the National Association of Agricultural Agents (Northeast Regional Vice Director). She has collaborated with several state agencies to develop programmatic and educational materials for equine owners and producers. She is the president of Vermont Agriculture Agents Association and a board member of Vermont Farm Bureau.

Jim Hanson is an Extension Economist, with an emphasis on small farm management and sustainable agriculture, for the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, University of Maryland at College Park. He and his wife, Liz Lavine, operate Piper’s Run Farm, where they board, train, and breed horses. He has served as the Associate Director and Associate Dean for Maryland Cooperative Extension (acting), 2005 - 2006. During the period 1996 to 2001, he served as Assistant Director and Program Leader for Agriculture and Natural Resources for the Maryland Cooperative Extension. In the last five years, he has worked on agricultural development projects in Iraq, Jordan, Estonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Honduras, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.

Dale Johnson conducts workshops and seminars on farm management and business planning, financial analysis and planning, and computer applications for farmers, lenders, educators and others. He consults individual farmers on business planning and financial management. His research focuses on crop and livestock enterprise analysis, farm machinery economics, and computer use in agriculture. He is also active in international Extension work.

Willie Lantz is a native of Aurora, WV where he grew up on a dairy farm. Willie attended Potomac State College and West Virginia University where he earned a BS degree in Agriculture Science with a major in Agriculture Education. Willie taught high school vocational agriculture at Hedgesville High School in West Virginia for 5 years. Willie earned his masters degree in 1994. Willie started his career with the University of Maryland that same year when he was hired to teach agriculture courses at Garrett College in McHenry Maryland through a distance learning program with the Institute of Applied Agriculture. In 2005, Willie started working for Maryland Cooperative Extension as the Extension Educator for Agriculture and Natural Resources in Garrett County. Willie lives with his wife Arlene and their two sons, Aaron and Levi, on a small farm where they raise beef cattle, meat goats, and vegetables.

Erin Petersen was born and raised in Loveland, Colorado. She earned a BA degree in Political Science from The University of Colorado in 1994. She also holds a BS degree in Equine Science from Colorado State University (2000). Petersen remained at Colorado State University, earning an MS degree in Animal Science in 2001. Her research focus was aimed at investigating nutrition of the growing horse as it relates to bone development. Ms. Petersen is a state Extension Horse Specialist and the Program Coordinator for the 2-year Equine Business Management Program at the Institute of Applied Agriculture. She teaches courses in Equine Nutrition, Health Management, Reproduction, Behavior and Pasture Management. Erin is an avid lover of horses and currently resides on a large horse farm in Davidsonville, Maryland.

Dr. Scott Pleasant is an Associate Professor in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at the Virginia - Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (VMRCVM), Virginia Tech. Dr. Pleasant has been a faculty member at VMRCVM since 1991 and is board certified in veterinary surgery by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He currently serves as a member of the College's Equine Field Service Section and as the College's Equine Extension Specialist. His clinical and research interests include equine lameness and podiatry.
